head massacre

I treated myself to highlighting and a haircut to celebrate the new year, newish job, etc.

Highlighting - ok
Haircut - too horrific for words...

The nice gay man who did my hair apparently had Aveda hair wax stuffed in his ears when I said "NO SHORT LAYERS." It was far too late when I realized that there was a thick layer cut in the back of my head somewhere above my ears. So basically, I have my usual haircut with this awful layer that's too short on top even to fit into a ponytail. His reasoning? Now you can see all those highlights I put in underneath!!!!

After an insane amount of money, the only thing to do is wait for the damn things to grow back out. What a waste of hard-earned dollars and self-esteem!

New Year!

'Bout time to add an update, methinks:

Right now, I'm sitting in a cubicle typing. It seems a strange turn of events considering the fact that fluorescent bar lights, vaguely colored squishy walls, and staring at a computer screen for 8 hours a day are all things I swore off when my time at the PCA came to a close. I ended up with an internship for this semester at Ramsey County in their Environmental Health Section.

In theory, it is the perfect fit: I spend my time at St. Paul Elementary Schools helping implement a school food recycling program designed to save the schools $$$, feed pigs on a farm in Isanti County, and generally save the world one rubbermaid barrel of slop at a time. In reality, it goes something like this: half the time is spent at the schools, the other at the office in Maplewood doing God only knows what to pass the time and feel like I'm earning the $13.00 an hour I'm paid. There aren't many projects around here that aren't entirely human health-focused and being an environmental studies/education sort, it's looking like the office will be entirely slow.

Putting the job aside, things continue mainly as they have. Vegetarian food, entertaining kitties, seeing friends and my family whenever possible, Mpls. apartment, fueling my Scrubs addiction. The only new thing is that Jimmy is in the middle of a month off of school. He's still getting paid, but it's to do fun things like play Super Smash Brothers Melee with friends. Bah Humbug!

I intended this post to detail a slough of resolutions for the New Year. I should get to it. Let's see....

1. Check out the Catholic church in Linden Hills
2. If the above religious institution proves inadequate, find one that isn't
3. Use stockpile of 35mm film and take pictures with the SLR
4. Save, save, save in hope of buying a condo or home later this year
5. Find a gym, community center, or other recreational place and make use of it.
6. With no class in session, read books for fun.

Ok, I really ought to get back to work. Happy New Year, everyone!
